On this trip to Angola<\/strong> we will explore the remote southwest of the country with the objective of different traditional tribes<\/strong>, and thus be able to photograph all its beauty.<\/p>\n

The first part of this trip will through the interior. The landscape changes radically, as well as the tribes that we will visit. We will learn about the culture of the Plain Muila<\/strong><\/a> and the Mountain Muila<\/strong>. We will continue our route towards the south, land of <b > giant baobabs < \/b > . There we will learn about the traditional culture of fascinating tribal groups, such as the Dimba<\/strong>, Gambue<\/strong> and Humbi<\/strong> tribes.<\/p>\n

The second part of this trip will continue along the Atlantic coast of southern Angola<\/strong>. We will meet the Cubal<\/strong> and Ngendelengo<\/strong> tribal people. Also, we will visit Namibe and Tombwa<\/strong> cities in search of beautiful and interesting Art Deco architecture<\/strong>. We will finish the trip in Santiago Beach, full of abandoned rotting boats.<\/p>\n

Plain Muila and Mountain Muila<\/h4>\n

After introducing ourselves to the soba (traditional chief) we will visit the the Plain Muila<\/a><\/strong> village. The women of this ethnic group are the ones who decorate themselves the most with colored necklaces and complex hairstyles. We will also meet the Mountain Muila<\/strong>, who are more traditional than those of the plains.<\/p>\n

Gambue<\/h4>\n

The Gambue<\/strong> have similar customs to their Muila and Handa neighbors. One of them is the use, by women, of bead and clay necklaces<\/strong>. They also have complex hairstyles<\/strong>, which indicate the marital status of each woman.<\/p>\n

Dimba<\/h4>\n

The Dimba<\/strong> are a cattle-raising society that inhabits the savannah around Cahama. The women keep the typical hairstyles<\/strong> that have an air of Melanesian headdresses. On this trip to Angola we will spend some time with them to learn about aspects of their daily life. We will have the opportunity to learn about their music<\/strong>, since they are famous for being great lovers of religious songs and dances<\/strong>.<\/p>\n

Cubal<\/h4>\n

The Cubal<\/strong> are a semi-nomadic group, whose economy is based on livestock and agriculture. It was the last ethnic group to succumb to the Portuguese in colonial time. Cubal women wear an original and unique headdress<\/strong>, called \u2018ompota\u2019 and they also use belts to tighten their breasts, as a bra, called \u2018oyonduthi\u2019.<\/p>\n

Ngendelengo<\/h4>\n

The Nngendelengo<\/a><\/strong> are semi-nomadic herders, hunters and subsistence farmers. Living in a forested environment has allowed them to develop a rudimentary charcoal business. Machetes are an essential part of their attire, which is complemented by large crests<\/strong> as a hairstyle for unmarried boys and multiple topknots<\/strong> for women.<\/p>\n

The Portuguese were in Angola from 1575 to 1975 and left a cultural legacy<\/strong> of great anthropological and architectural interest. The churches and forts in the Baroque style, the Art Deco<\/strong> buildings of the coastal cities and the \u2018tropical modernism<\/strong>\u2019 style that lasted from 1945 to 1975 stand out.
